Career Day

We had a fun filled Career Day on Friday, look at the future workers of Hooksett:

A scientist:

rock star:

construction worker:

director:

The director had to put her camera down for this shot!

a singer:

a teacher:

a spy:

another future singer:

guitar player:

pet shop owner:

builder:

singer/songwriter:

vet:

zookeeper:

I can see a few themes: love of animals, love of music and a desire to create!

After sharing with the class their career choice and why it was chosen, students partnered up to share the research they completed on a chosen community helper.

And we ended our day singing a community helper song with the rest of the first grade at a whole school assembly. What a fun Career Day we had, thank you for your help with research and getting the students decked out in the career of their choice!

Indoor Recess

Due to the cold temperatures we had indoor recess again today. At the beginning of the year all of our indoor recess options were introduced as centers so the students could practice working cooperatively within each activity. They are able to walk right in no matter who the duty teacher is and know just what to do. Everyone is very responsible about picking things up when they change activities or when recess ends. Here are a few pictures from today's recess including drawing, building with blocks and cubes, cards, cars, and magnetix. Their imaginations are endless!

Happy Holidays!!

We had a wonderfully energetic first day of winter/last day of school in 2012!!! After some morning work and a reading of The Polar Express in the classroom the first grade teachers surprised the students by making gingerbread houses in the multi-purpose room. (The students could sit where they wanted so spread out among 100+ first graders i did my best to snap a picture of everyone) We hope you enjoyed these edible creations!
In the afternoon we had a whole school assembly where the first grade sang a gingerbread song they learned with Ms. Latham in music.
It was a wonderful end to 2012 in school and I hope your holidays and celebrations were healthy and happy as well!
