Minute to Win It

Today the first grade teacher out together a variety if challenges for students, to make our last afternoon before vacation fun filled. Each challenge asked students to do a novel activity, problem solve and challenged everyone in different ways than our typical class work. Here is a peek at our afternoon:

The spaghetti noodle challenge: holding a piece of spaghetti in their mouth, students has to spear as many penne pasta as they could.

The chopstick challenge: using pencils as chopsticks, students had to see how many candy hearts they could transfer between plates in one minute.

Cotton ball race: students blew a cotton ball across a table to be the first to cross the finish line.

Solo cup stack: students given 15 cups and it was a race to see who could make a tower.

Candy heart towers: students tried to build the tallest tower out of candy hearts.

(I even joined in the fun on this one)

Balloon toss: students had to be the last one keeping their balloon in the air (with one hand).

Skittle shuffle: students use a straw and try to use suction to move skittles from one plate to another.

Cereal box puzzles:
Students were challenged to put together a 16 piece puzzle to make the front of a Cheerios box---harder than it looks!! At the end we did a challenge to see who could put the full puzzle together because a minute was not long enough.

Kind comment heart creations

Despite today's early release, we celebrated a belated Valentines Day by sharing kind comments and creating a heart full of love.

Some of the students got so involved reading their comments they needed reminders to glue them. Everyone had such nice things to say about their classmates.

We had a great variety of stickers to use in creating these masterpieces, thank you!

This class loves cutting, gluing and creating (the creativity continued during our short indoor recess later too.).

Once the doilies, comments, and stickers were applied, students had a chance to add glitter glue--always a favorite! Hopefully everything will be dry tomorrow so they can go home.

Many thanks to the parents who were able to volunteer. We had a last minute time change and I know many were not able to attend due to the early release. We hope to have you in to volunteer soon!

100th Day

We had a fun filled 100th day--it's hard to believe these students had the energy for all we did at their old age!

Everyone came dressed the part, plus some over the top theatrics of hunching over and holding their backs.

We stuck with our routines in the morning, but in the afternoon the students go to go through a variety of 100th day stations.

Word building with the letters in 'hundred days':

100 piece puzzles:

Working in our 100th day books:

Building 100 cup structures:

It was a fun filled day and I know the next 80 days of school will be even better!!!
