Sink or Float?

Today we explored more with our solids. Just like scientists, we made and recorded predictions about our solids thinking about which would sink and which would float.

Then we got to experiment to see what they would actually do! The students took turns dropping them in the water. Some of our predictions were right, and some of the outcomes surprised us! A couple items floated at first, but then were knocked underwater (the spoon) or became waterlogged and sank (the pipe cleaner).

Comparing Length and Height

On Friday, the students got a new pencil and were asked to find objects in the room that were taller and shorter than the pencil as well as longer and shorter than the pencil. They recorded their findings in their math journals. (There aren't many pictures because the hunt was fast and furious!)
