Fun Fall Festival

What a FANTASTICALLY FUN Fall Festival we had today!!! Many thanks to the PTA and all the volunteers that made it possible and helped it to go off without a hitch!

Mrs. Scarpacci had us singing and dancing and we had a blast--going on a Leaf Hunt, doing the Monster Mash and more!

Then we headed outside for some great activities with Mrs. Jenkins. First the ring toss, only we were ringing pumpkins!

Then, a relay race--Pass the Scarecrow!

The cheering sections was the best--the class was rooting for everyone!

Our last outdoor activity was the Pass the Apple. They passed those 'apples' so fast I barely caught a couple pictures!

For our Fall Festival activity we headed to the MPR to create a mural, under Mrs. White's guidance.

Before, it looked like this:

You can check out our beautiful mural hanging outside of our classroom when I see everyone for conferences on Tuesday. Happy Halloween!

Go Noodle

I recently got some great advice from my 6 year old nephew. (Now that he is in first grade he is an expert on the grade level I have taught for 11 years.) He said "Do you have GoNoodle in your classroom?" I had never heard of it. "You HAVE to do GoNoodle!!! It is so fun!!!" He also told me I should have a SMARTboard. GoNoodle was the more budget friendly option since it is free. :)

We have been using GoNoodle to calm our bodies after lunch, get some energy out, stretch, and learn to use both sides of our body in a coordinated way that takes extra brain work.

Try GoNoodle at home, there are awesome movement activities, interactive games, dances, calming exercises and coordinated movement challenges. My nephew does this at home all the time, in addition to school and when I asked him what he was learning in first grade he was most excited about GoNoodle. Reading for the Record!!

Today we are reading for the record! Joining with more than 2.5 million children across the country our class will read Not Norman: A Goldfish Story, by Kelly Bennett. This year is the 10th anniversary of Jumpstart's Read for the Record, a campaign to make sure every child in America enters school prepared to succeed! It is a great cause, and a great excuse to do what we love...READ!

Want to reread the book with your student at home?

Click the book below to read an online version of the story, just like we did today.

Fire Safety

Today the Hooksett Fire Department came to teach us all about fire safety for Fire Prevention Week. The fire fighters taught the children to listen for the smoke detectors, stay low and feel the door with the back of their hand. They even demonstrated what to do if the smoke alarm went off while you were sleeping.

If you do not already have a safe meeting place outside you can decide on one this week after you check your smoke detector batteries.

The students also got to go outside to check out the fire truck and even climb in it.

Big thanks to the Hooksett Fire Deparment for teaching us about fire safety and keeping us safe in Hooksett!!!

Indoor recess

Yesterday we had our first indoor recess. The students had many activities to choose from and this shows just a few options. Everyone was great about sharing and picked up quickly to get to lunch. I'm looking forward to our next rainy day and chance to play together inside!

Here are just a few of the fun things we did:

Building with blocks

Drawing and coloring

Building with Legos

It looks like I will have to get some more Legos to share. We have many master builders!
