Planting seeds

Yesterday (and today) we planted our seeds to watch as they sprout and grow. Some chose to plan sunflower seeds, while others chose pumpkin. Both are fairly fast to sprout and begin hoeing and the students are excited to see their seeds change and grow.

After planting the seeds, students began making observations in the plant journals. Some were disappointed that the seeds hadn't begin growing overnight!

We will keep you posted on the progress of our plants' growth!

Race to 40

This week students have been practicing a new math game called "Race to 40" to practice regrouping for addition. They are doing awesome!

Come by Wednesday night from 5:30-7:30 to play with your student and learn how to play this and other games at home this summer. There will also be some writing projects on display and the students love to show off their reading skills in our classroom library! Looking forward to seeing you there.

Saguaro

Today we read the story "Cactus Hotel" as our unit opener. We learned that the saguaro cactus can live for 200 years and grow to be 50 feet tall! The class wanted to know how tall 50 feet was. Since we didn't have a ladder tall enough, we measured how long 50 feet was in our hallway.  Beginning at our door, we made it past Mrs. Rich's bulletin board and almost to Mrs. Young's room.  That's a tall plant!

Earth Day garden clean-up

This afternoon for Earth Day we went out with Mrs. Whittum's class to clean up the garden beds outside of our windows. We pulled out grass that had grown within the beds along with dead growth from last years. Now the beds are ready to be mulched over vacation as the many bulbs planted within will begin growing and blooming!

Happy Earth Day!!
