Field Trip recap

We had a wonderful time on our Around the Town field trip. Here is a peak inside our day:

First stop, the Hooksett Safety center. After a talk on fire safety, the students got to go see the truck bay and get a closer look at the fire trucks.

There's a lot of equipment stored on these trucks!

Next stop, the Head School for a chance to experience a true one room school house that the students of Hooksett once attended.

Before entering the school, the girls learned to curtsy and the boys learned to bow as they said 'Good morning' to our school marm, Miss Hill.

The girls sat on one side of the school house, the boys on the other.

We counted 26 stars on the flag--our country was much smaller when students went to one room school houses!

The students read a few stories, similar to those that would have been read in 1840.

Miss Hill even wowed us with a patriot song she was learning to play on the organ.

Thank you for a wonderful trip back in time Miss Hill!

After the schoolhouse, we headed to the Hooksett Public Library where we heard a story and sang a song before having a chance to explore the children's room.

Returning to school, we were able to enjoy the beautiful day and have a picnic outside. After I ushered everyone out, I discovered the class had arranged themselves in a circle so everyone was included. What a wonderful community!

We also went out for a second recess on our field trip day and the camera came along to capture our fun. We heard that students in 1840 liked jump roping so many of the students tried it out. It's always more fun when someone else swings!

And after many requests, I joined in on the fun too. :)
(Thank you to the student photographer who snapped these pictures so I could swing and jump)

Thank you for joining us on our trip around the town!
